Power of Silence

Power of Silence is a play set around a young man Josh who struggles to deal with moving from a residential deaf school to mainstream school. The play looks at the lack of deaf awareness in his new school, his struggles with his family and also his relationship with his former best friend.

Josh is a young man of 16 who is hard of hearing and uses hearing aids as a result of contracting meningitis as a child. Josh has been in a residential school for the deaf however the local authority withdrew his funding and returns to mainstream education.

Josh joins his new school facing many challenges such as lack of deaf awareness and bullying which includes his former best friend Kev. Josh’s relationship with his family is also strained following his return to the family home.
